Chest pain or discomfort may very from a mild aching to a sharp, stabbing feeling. Sometimes they are associated to palpitations (read more) You might feel as though there's a tight band around your chest or a heavy weight pressing down on it. The discomfort can sometimes spread to the arms, neck, jaw, or back. While such pain may be caused by something as trivial as a muscle strain, it may also indicate a serious problem You should seek urgent medical help if the pain is severe, lasts longer than 15 minutes, or is combined with symptoms such as shortness of breath or sweating. In less severe cases it is advisable to obtain heart investigations like an ECG heart monitor and an echocardiogram and see a doctor (best to see a doctor first if possible)
Palpitations occur when you suddenly notice your heartbeat. It may feel like your heart is racing, pounding, or fluttering in your chest, throat, or neck. This sensation can be alarming, but it's typically not serious. Factors such as stress, caffeine, or physical activity can trigger it. If palpitations occur frequently or are accompanied by dizziness or chest pain and symptoms are unbearable, urgent medical help would be required. If symptoms are less intense and bearable it is advisable to obtain an ECG heart monitor and an echocardiogram as basic investigations
Shortness of breath, is when a person feels like they cannot take in sufficient air into their lungs. Whereas shortness of breath can be a normal reaction to strenuous exercise or can also be a chronic or severe condition that can be an indication of a health problem. Cardiac causes are a major contributor to shortness of breath. The most common heart-related conditions are valve problems, heart failure and arrhythmias. Fatigue is a feeling of exhaustion or lack of energy that does not go away even after one has rested. The problems with the heart, such as heart failure or coronary artery disease, make it hard for the blood to flow normally, and therefore the heart cannot supply enough oxygen to the body, thus causing fatigue. Dizziness is defined as a faint feeling. It can be related to heart-related problems like arrhythmias, low or high blood pressure or heart valve problems. These issues with the heart can affect blood flow and cause dizziness. This can lead to fainting, especially during physical exertion or when lying down. Symptoms may include chest pain or palpitations before fainting.
